The multiple diagnostic facets of lying: A clinical case in an addiction unit
By Sophie Ulmann, Hendrik Kajosch, Charles Kornreich
English
First described by Dupré in 1905, the term “mythomania” has now disappeared from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and only the term “lie” remains, as a symptom illustrating antisocial personality or conduct disorders (American Psychiatric Association 2015; Haustgen 2007; Dupré 1905). Mythomania is only cited in the ICD-11 in the category “other personality disorders,” without an associated description. However, the clinical approach described related to lying in general is far from sufficient and poses considerable difficulties in diagnosis, management, and therapeutic alliance. These difficulties will be studied through a clinical case in an addiction unit.
