And God Created Work

By Michel Hautefeuille
English

In the world of work, it is clear that a company’s state of health and the state of health of its employees are not necessarily compatible, let alone complementary. In our consultations, we have been struck by the testimonies of real abuse suffered by employees in their workplaces, whether through the management of spaces, tasks or teams. The etymology of the term “work” makes it possible to shed some interesting light on what seem to be the characteristics particular to work. In this pathogenic environment, it is important to make the differential diagnosis between three clinical pictures: the employee who works and who is himself addicted to something, the employee who is doping him or herself to be able to cope with the performance requested (real doping behaviour), and finally the employee whose object of addiction is work itself, the workaholic.
